InterVerse Is VRML Aware

The Programmers at InterVerse are learning the Virtual Reality Modeling Language. This language will provide websites with a virtual reality space, which can be maneuvered through in real time. The internet will be vastly more powerful and interesting as a result.

Some members are currently working on
The 1995 VRML Arc Gallery
for the
Interactive Media festival.
Arc is doing two things at once. While preparing for and producing the 1995 Arc Gallery, we are also in the process of constructing a Virtual Reality version of this same gallery that will be exhibited in the 1995 Interactive Media Festival in Los Angeles. As well as being an accurate model of the Variety Arts Center this VR Gallery will contain all of the workstations, projects, artworks, and installations that the actual gallery will contain in June. The VRML Arc Gallery will be accessible to anyone who is connected to the internet with web browsing capabilities. The VRML Arc Gallery will one of the first implementations of the Virtual Reality Modeling Language.

At the time of this writing, a UNIX and Windows NT browser are available from SGI and TGS. The TGS Webspace Macintosh and Win 3.x browsers will be available soon. Keep checking with the InterVerse for the announcement of the new browsers.

There are (finally) two viewers available for Window 3.x. They also are available for Win NT. Although they are not truly VRML browsers, they both will view .dxf and .3ds files. The VR Player will also view .ast files. They give a good idea of what a VRML browser will look and act like.

Autodesk's Cyberspace Developer Kit Release 2

This one is much faster, but it doesn't support as many functions as the VR Player.

VR Player

This is almost identical to the Autodesk one (same author), but it handles lighting better and gives more control over the display of the objects. It is also a bit slower.
